We rented a car so that we could do some more exploring in Provence. Pierre had reserved a Smart Car. When we went to pick up the car, the woman informed us that they only had a larger vehicle. I was relieved...until we went out to the parking lot and saw a van that must have seated at least eight and seemed to have scrapes along every possible surface. We returned to the desk and a new worker arrived who miraculously found a normal sized car for us to drive.
It was rainy, so after much discussion we decided to visit Abbaye de Montmajour. The abbey was founded in 948 by Benedictine monks. It used to be situated on a large rock surrounded by swampland.

about the Abbey.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located not too far from Arles, but because you need a car to get there it was not crowded.
These are tombs that were carved into the rock.
We climbed the tower. That is Arles in the distance. We were glad that we got a bit further afield and glad that we chose Abbaye de Montajour.
