Aix en Provence is known for its many fountains.
This candy is a specialty of Provence. It is made from melon and almonds and it is not my favorite.
We explored most of the museums in Aix, including a very small and local natural history museum.
The main museum in Aix is Musée Granet. At the tourist office and elsewhere in Aix, Cézanne is talked about non-stop. I guess I was expecting a lot of Cézanne. There were a few. The most interesting part of the museum was the Collection Jean Planque, which is a newly donated collection that is housed a chapel a few blocks away.
Jean Planque was a Swiss art collector, who was known for his "eye" and for making friends with the artists with whom he worked. The collections includes over 300 paintings and sculptures, starting with impressionist and post-impressionists, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Degas et Redon , and including the major artists of the twentieth century, Bonnard, Rouault, Picasso, Braque, Dufy, Léger, Klee, de Staël ou Dubuffet.
It was nice to spend some time with this guy. We still agree on a lot of things. For example, we both agree that these are some of the ugliest "dolphins" we have ever seen. We went to and enjoyed a movie called the Lunchbox. Here is the official trailer.
