L'Institute du Monde Arabe is hosting a exhibit on The Orient Express. This is a view from the roof of the Institute.
The exhibit starts with a tour through several train cars parked in the institute's plaza.
Georges Nagelmackers a Beligian banker's son visited the U.S. and became interested in bringing Pullman cars to Europe. His idea was to have a luxury train that went through countries without having to stop at borders.
Georges Nagelmackers was the founder of Compagnie Internationale des
Wagons-Lits, which expanded its luxury trains, travel agencies and
hotels all over Europe, Asia and North Africa. Its most famous train
remains the Orient-Express.
Interiors were luxurious and the trains were popular with travelers.
Many books were inspired by the Orient Express.
