A new library opened in Ulm in 2004 and it is shaped like a huge glass pyramid. We decided we should check it out. They had a good English , Romanian, Turkish, and Russian collection.
Outside a librarian was reading a story in the park.
Inside there was tons of art done by kids, books, and lots of boardgames. We were impressed. I think a city's main library says a lot about its values. Ottawa has some work to do.
This building was built in 1370 as a business premises. It became town hall in 1419. The clock was installed in 1520. It shows the "Tailor of Ulm's" flying machine. The Tailor of Ulm built a hang glider like apparatus in 1770 and crashed it into the river. Supposedly, it would have worked if the updrafts were better that day.
Einstein was born in Ulm.
An ugly fountain in an out of the way square memorializes this fact.
Some cooperative art we created while waiting for dinner (A Venusian is from Venus, of course).
